One of the questions we’re trying to answer is how much energy – and money – our major insulation programme in 2011 has saved. We hoped this would be easy as before the project we had an EPC rating of G, afterwards we had an EPC rating of B.

As ever, it proved for tricky than we thought, so ask Ned Harrison from Suffolk Green County for help. He found this site https://www.epcmortgage.org.uk/ which does put ranges on the costs for each band. “Plugging some assumptions in there, it suggests that a move from G to B could cut energy costs in half.”

To be on the safe side we’ve assumed a 25% reduction and even this resulted in a saving of 350,000 kWh of electricity, 140 tonnes equivalent of carbon and over £42,000 in costs. All these savings are passed on to tenants who pay a small Carbon Services charge to contribute to our earlier envestment.
